Difference between Projectors and Video projectors

Projectors and Video projectors:

different and complementary

Understanding the difference between projectors and video projectors is not always immediate. The two types of equipment, with complementary applications for projection, differ in specific potentials and characteristics.

The PROIETTA PROJECTORS (IMPRESSIVE, THOROK, PALLADIO and IRIDIUM) project gobos, dichroic glass discs resistant to high temperatures designed to project static images or motifs. These colored discs are engraved and then superimposed until the desired image is obtained. A gobo can be made up of the combination of four quadricolor discs (cyan, magenta, yellow, black), but different additional colors are available to achieve specific shades, such as the flesh tone of human figures.

Inside the projector, the light (with a range of brightness that can range, as needed, from 6,000 to 60,000 lumens) passes through the gobo and projects the image onto the surface. Some projectors can project multiple different gobos in temporal succession, and all except PALLADIO also support dynamic effects, achieved through rotating discs. Proietta projectors are classified as IP65: this means that they are completely protected against dust and water; consequently, no additional protection is required to use them outdoors. Projects made with projectors are significantly less expensive than those made with video projectors.

VIDEO PROJECTORS, also known as digital projectors, are designed to project video and images from a digital source, such as a computer or a video player. Unlike projectors, video projectors do not require the presence of an image physically engraved on a gobo to project images, but they rely on digitally reproduced multimedia content: they can project still images, presentations, full-motion videos with synchronized audio. Video projectors are commonly used in business environments, such as conference rooms, classrooms, and home theaters, but PROIETTA’s air-conditioned cases allow them to be used outdoors as well. The use of video projectors is more expensive compared to the use of projectors.

Combining technologies

Using a video projector to project, for example, onto a facade, can cost even more than six times as much as using a projector. An effective strategy to contain the costs of your event may therefore consist of using projectors to project onto most surfaces and video projectors to project onto one or a few prominent surfaces; the extraordinariness of the visual effects will be preserved.

By leveraging the unique strengths of each technology, you can create a dynamic and visually engaging experience that fits your budget. Projectors offer economical solutions for displaying static images and diagrams, while video projectors are more suitable for dynamic video content and animations, such as video mapping.

The combination of projectors and video projectors is also possible to project onto a single surface, leveraging the respective strengths of different systems to create versatile and impactful visualizations. For example, you could use a projector to display an image or logo on a facade and simultaneously use a video projector to project a dynamic video on the same facade.

This approach of diversified and combined use, always studied ad hoc for each chosen context, certainly helps to reduce costs, but also allows for a more diversified and engaging visual experience, even more capable of capturing the audience’s attention thanks to the great variety of atmospheres.

Explore the creative possibilities of the combination of projectors and video projectors with PROIETTA, and you can take your event to new levels while staying within your budget!
